Delivering Some Names for the "Nice List"

I enjoyed meeting up with Santa and Mrs. Claus, to offer my thoughts on the names that should be included on the "Nice List." Better pay the gas bill, because I doubt you'll be seeing any coal!

Snow Wonder They Weren't Cold! 12/13

We had an extended recess on Friday morning, borrowing back some lost time after a few "below zero" days which kept us in. The children had a blast out in the cold, making snow angels, using the picnic table as a "snow grater," playing soccer with chunks of white, and building forts, volcanoes and snowmen. Still looking for our first packing snowfall of the season.

Turkey Bowling - 2013

All GMS students were able to share in the excitement of an assembly that they earned through awesome behavior in the lunchroom. The students managed to leave the floors of the lunchroom clean for more than 56 lunch periods during November. The result was a Turkey Bowling assembly where students from every class and grade level competed for the honor of being best frozen bowlers. First grade did an excellent job at the assembly with KB representing our class as a bowler, along with KK and CP as pin-setters.

First Grade Sing Along - 11/25

Mr. Clarey's parents came in to share in a First Grade Sing Along. Grampa Clarey played his guitar and taught the children some new songs like: "Granny's in the Cellar," "The Cat Came Back," and "I'm a Raccoon." Students enjoyed more familiar songs like "Hokey Pokey" and "God Bless America," which they belted out with pride! This reading activity was complete with song books which children worked at following along with as we learned the chorus to new and old songs.

Bells of Grace (McWayne) - Our Tree Downtown

The GMS Student Council was able to secure a tree for decorations, downtown at the RiverWalk. We had the chance to decorate a bell for the tree. (Actually, we'll have completed two, as the first one didn't make it through the shellacking) All students are certain they made the "GOOD LIST."

Thankful Turkeys - 11/22

We started a project with our Fifth Grade Buddies, where we wrote some ideas about things we are thankful for. We turned these ideas into very cute Thankful Turkeys. Sharing our writing is one of the best things we do! Hopefully you have a chance to hear your child share some things that they are thankful for.

You Can Be Anything! - Star of the Week 11/15

CP had a special guest in for Star of the Week, and the message shared was perfect. A new book was added to our classroom library, and Snoopy told us how we can be anything we like. Great story and super message. Thanks to the other families who have also been joining us to celebrate their Star of the Week. From stories to crafts, we have enjoyed all of you. Please remember that when your child brings home the tube with the poster, that you are welcome to email me to set up a time for a special visit. Times that seem to fit best are: 9:10-9:30, 12:30-12:50, and 3:00-3:20. Most days of the week can be utilized for this.

Finishing off the Insect Reports

Including more of these photos is difficult, because they are all SO CUTE! Insect reports are complete, and everyone did a terrific job!

Our Halloween Party - 10/31

The class enjoyed a fun party with a few tricks, and no treats. But we managed to play some games and even got to decorate our own pumpkins for display at home. Thanks to all the families who helped us celebrate, and also for being good sports by dressing up!

Halloween Fun!

Welcome Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos!

The school was graced with the talents of a group of orphans from El Salvador who danced, sang and played their instruments. Mr. Modaff also shared his vision for what our school service goal could be. All students are encouraged to be better examples of caring community members, in the school, at home, in the community, and across the world. Here are a few pics of the NPH kids performing. We loved having them back in the classroom for a Q & A session with BHS interpreters.

Officer Langston Visits - 10/24

Batavia Police Officer Michelle Langston visited the 1C classroom, as part of TB's Star of the Week celebration. She told us about her job, showed some of the tools she uses, and lit up our afternoon with a tour of her cruiser. If you see Car #84, wave to Officer Langston!

More Walk a Thon!

Rockin' the Walk a Thon - 10/18/13

Our PTO organized the major fund raising event of the year by hosting a Walk a Thon on Friday. We warmed up with Mr. Modaff, then took to the course to run and walk 2 miles! It was a perfect afternoon for us. We had fun with all of it, including hula hoop games and more at the finish line. Thanks to your generosity, we raised more than $19,000. (pictures coming... grrrrrrrr)

Hard Work Pays Off! 10/7

Our goal each week is to earn one Class CLAW while walking through the halls quietly, or while working hard for other teachers in their classrooms. A stub on the end of each Class CLAW is sent to the office, and this week our lucky stub came up as a winner. Congratulations to our Class of the Week winners!

Reflective Researchers - Using Pebble Go!

We reflected on things we learned while in the computer lab. Evidence that there is some exciting stuff ahead for our researchers!

Insect Hats: 10/4

Thanks to the many volunteers who came in to help us assemble some insect hats which will put us in the mood for some exciting research and report creating.
