Our Own Radio Station?!? Come Listen...

This week, we wrote news reports with a partner, to highlight some of the fun things we have been learning about in school. After selecting our topics, we paired up and brainstormed fun things we could share with our families. After dividing the parts up, we recorded our news reports using a web site called 'Spreaker.' Look up to the left, and find the tab to visit our link to "Room 104.1C" for breaking news!

View the 'Our Projects' List to the Upper Left...

I've added a new page to our blog here, to have you see some of the fun we have been having with technology. Using an app on the iPad called Audioboo, the boys and girls have created a new way to share stories that they've written. This week, we wrote biographies about our classmates. After interviewing for research, the children wrote at least 5 details about their friend, published their story and illustrated using oil pastels. We took a snapshot of the illustration, and through the power of Audioboo, we recorded the children reading their biographies and then posted them here. While it is a time consuming process, we hope to have all 24 biographies loaded up on this page by the end of the week, next week. The majority that have been completed are already posted on the links to the top left corner of this blog page.

A sample of an audioboo for a different project we recently completed is shown here....

More Oobleck Fun!

Bartholomew and the Oobleck, by Dr. Seuss

The story of Bartholomew and the Oobleck became the basis for a little science exploration, using water, cornstarch and food coloring. Is it a liquid? Is it a solid? The debate was sticky!

120 Day... A little less exciting, but a milestone nonetheless

We recorded our 120th day of school this week on Tuesday.  The boys and girls worked with 120 grid puzzles, trying to determine missing numbers that are 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, 10 less, and beyond.  We also counted out 120 cups with our math group teammates, and then build solid structures.

Book Reviews Bring Technology to the Classroom - 2/27/14

Using more of the Common Core State Standards, the children wrote book reviews, were photographed with their books, and then they used the iPad to develop an electronic collage with ratings of the book.

Abe Modaff - President's Day Visit

Mr. Modaff made the best of our being the only school district in the area that opened the doors for business on President's Day.  Strikingly similar, wouldn't you think?

Postcards from the Moon - 2/21/14

After introducing new vocabulary relating to the Moon, as well as learning how astronauts brush their teeth in space (among many other weightless strategies), the boys and girls wrote postcards from the Moon.  "Super cute" would be one way that these creations have been described.

Olympic Opinions - 2/21/14

Our students wrapped up their first Winter Olympic memories by graphing their favorite games of the event.  We also wrote about our favorite events, and what we liked about them.  One of my favorite parts of this activity included the newly aquired skills of using commas within our writing.  Here are a few samples to savor. The rest hang in our classroom.
