Building Stamina and Learning Routines

The beginning of school is spent developing routines of independence which allow the teacher the chance to meet with small groups and individual students.  We build stamina when we select books that are "just right" and can be used to read independently for blocks of time. We've been graphing the number of minutes that we can read independently, and so far we are up to 8 minutes!

We are also going to spend time learning how to work through the routines of our Guided Math Workshop. We will take about 20 school days getting to know the procedures for the Math Facts station, the All By Myself station, Teacher Time, and Hands On Games.  We will talk more about these at the Curriculum Night on Sept. 4.

Back to School! 1C Begins New Year of Fun

We had a terrific start to the year, and there is so much to be excited about. We may be small in number, but we are great in attitude, teamwork and potential. We had our first round of Guided Math Workshop activities simulated in some exploration and instruction on tally marks. We are getting to know some of the tools that we will soon use for bigger mathematical purposes. It sure is fun, exploring and being creative! Sometimes summer is just too long. So glad to be back!
