We take our opportunities to enjoy ourselves, too. Recess has been fun playing playground games like 4 Square, Cherry Bomb, and even some soccer. We also earn Brain Breaks from our quiet work in Literacy Stations and Guided Math Workshop. When we are active, we're firing on all cylinders.
This blog site is dedicated to the children and families of 1C. We will use it to celebrate our year with photos, as well as to help make connections between home and school using websites, word lists, calendars, and more!

Journaling About Our Larva
Just look at the size of these things! They were a little over one centimeter in length when we first received them about 10 days ago. Big changes are coming. Can't wait to journal about them.
Literacy Stations
Literacy Stations have become an exciting part of our mornings. We have contracts with jobs that we get to choose to complete (we have to complete everything, but students choose when). These contracts will include Guided Reading, Read to Self, Read to Someone, Grammar, Writing, Phonics, Listening to Reading, and more.
Weekend News Every Monday
Don't forget that Mondays include time spent writing about our experiences from the prior weekend. Sometimes it's hard for students to generate ideas, but it sure feels good when we see thoughtful and detailed entries in our journals. Talk about it at breakfast on Mondays, to ensure a confident session of writing.

Lovely Little Larva
The children began discovering a little more about the life cycles of insects. What better way than to bring in real larva? Many enjoyed the chance to explore them up close. Some were hesitant. But everyone will enjoy the process of discovering how insects can change through metamorphosis.

Weekend News
Please remember that each week our students will be sharing some of the highlights of their weekends at home. I ask plenty of questions to help them generate ideas, but if you could also remind them of some fun things they did, tried, ate, watched, or experienced, it will help them in the production in class. Thank you in advance for your help with the preparation for Weekend News on the first day of the school week.
