Where In The World is Batavia, Illinois?!

Maps were fun! Ask your child about the compass rose and map key.

Air Rocket Fun

We had a fun time launching rockets after studying how air takes up space. The rockets were too small in the sky for a photo, but we had fun pumping them up.

Math Workshop Fun: Guest Teachers

We have one Class Dojo choice where students can be the teacher's assistant during Math Workshop. This week, AV chose to teach the group about subtracting multiples of ten on the number line. Everyone enjoys a different face in the driver's seat.

More Fun With Air

We used syringes to push air in different ways, including popping the plunger out at targets. Air really IS there! Can't see it, but we sure can feel the pressure and watch it work.

Wheelbarrow Races and More

Using the Class Dojo for reinforcing great behavior has been fun this year. One choice that students can make is to earn relay races in the gym for the whole class. Here's one round of relay fun:

Mrs. Schmalzer's Big Night

Mrs. Schmalzer was nominated for the Kane County Educator of the Year, in the category of Educational Service Personnel. Although she didn't win by title, she certainly earned the recognition and had a wonderful evening with her family and friends of GMS. It was exciting to see the photos of 1C, and watch Mrs. Schmalzer's video up on the huge screens at the Q Center in St. Charles. WE'RE ALL PROUD OF YOU, MRS. S!

Fun With Air - Our New Science Unit Begins

Fresh off of the Solids and Liquids Unit, the children began exploring with air last week. Our discovery day gave students the chance to see and prove that air exists, and how it can be "played with." More fun experiments to come!

Graphing Fun - 1.MD.4

The children have spent the past two Fridays working on surveying their peers and developing graphs that share some pretty interesting information. The first round of graphs included "yes or no" answers. They hang in our classroom. The second round of graphs depict four choices to choose from, and also include a question for other students to read and answer when looking at the results. This was a fun way to allow the children to take more ownership in their understanding of Common Core Skill 1.MD.4.
